They say the family that plays together, stays together. Well, two longtime megayacht owners are doing just that: Father and daughter, they celebrated the launches of their individual boats on the same day recently at Sanlorenzo.
While they each commissioned a semidisplacement yacht, they selected different styles and LOAs. The father chose a 122 (above), the flagship of Sanlorenzo’s line so far. Christened FX, she’s the second of four SD122 hulls (“SD” stands for “semidisplacement”) sold within the past 11 months, according to the yard.
The SD122 is also the “big sister” to the SD92 – which, coincidentally enough, is the model the daughter owns. In fact, Sanlorenzo says her father bought the yacht for her. Telli 3, seen here, is the ninth SD92 that the yard has built since introducing the series in September 2007.
This father and daughter aren’t just experienced yacht owners, they’re previous Sanlorenzo clients. If FX’s name sounds familiar, you probably recall a 108-foot Sanlorenzo by the same name, built in 2004. And if you’re a car enthusiast, you probably know that a Ferrari with the same model name, FX, was custom-made for the Sultan of Brunei, based on the high-performance racecar Ferrari FXX… and that the yacht FX’s owner is reported in some circles to be Piero Ferrari, son of founder Enzo Ferrari.
