The first of three historic J Class regattas taking place in UK waters is presently underway, and we’re posting updates and photos all week on the Megayacht News Facebook page.
The J Class Falmouth Regatta, which began Tuesday and runs through Saturday, marks the first gathering of four Js in a race solely for J Class yachts: Ranger, Velsheda, Lionheart, and Rainbow. (Initially Endeavour was also to participate, but she dropped out just prior to the regatta.) The J Class Falmouth Regatta is even more significant when you consider that this marks the first competition that the two-year-old Lionheart, a replica of one of the original Ranger designs, has entered. And, it marks the first regatta for the newly delivered Rainbow.
Check our Facebook page for photo album packed with pictures of these superb superyacht racers, which are often dubbed “racing submarines” due to their propensity to get their crews wet. As for results, as of this writing, Velsheda is in the lead for Race Day 3… a promising sign, given that she handily took Day 2, finishing four minutes ahead of Ranger, which has triumphed over her many times in the past.
This regatta won’t be the only J Class event we’re following. We’ll have photos and updates from the J Class Solent Regatta, the next race, when it kicks off in mid-July. Immediately following that is the Hundred Guinea Cup race.
