Hayati Kamhi, a Turkish businessman who co-founded and co-owned the Turkish megayacht builder Proteksan Turquoise, died suddenly on Monday. He was 62.
Kamhi was found in his home, reportedly the victim of a gunshot wound to the head. News reports in Turkey state that police are treating it as a suicide.
Kamhi is most known in the marine industry for launching Proteksan Turquoise in 1997, with partner Mehmet Karabeyoglu. It was a combination of two builders: Proteksan Yachts, which Kamhi had created; and Turquoise Yachts, which Karabeyoglu had established. Proteksan Turquoise has delivered nearly two dozen megayachts to date.
Before becoming involved in megayacht construction, Kamhi founded several other companies. Some concentrated on marine activities, such as P and F Maritime, a yacht builder and yacht-marketing firm. Kamhi also created companies involved in personal electronics, electronic cash registers, and the trading of steel, chemical products, and grains.
