The Freestyle Cruiser, made by Freestyle Slides, is among the most popular watertoys that Superyacht Tenders and Toys sells to the megayacht market. Once clients see the newest slide available, a custom S-shaped Cruiser, they might just want an upgrade.
Josh Richardson, founder of Superyacht Tenders and Toys, says that two of these S-shaped Cruiser slides were commissioned for a “significant” yacht. He won’t specify which one, though he does say the megayacht is more than 230 feet (70 meters) LOA. The owner wanted the S shape for more thrills (and clearly believes one slide just isn’t enough…and frankly, we don’t blame him).
Each S-shaped Cruiser slide is 41 feet (12.6 meters) long, and like previous standard Freestyle Cruiser models, they’ll be attached to the yacht’s uppermost deck—in this case, the helideck. Each slide weighs nearly 4,078 pounds (1,850 kg), manufactured in the same factory where the traditional slides are made. The photos here show the two slides being tested at that factory, a process that all of the products undergo.
Once the S-shaped Cruiser slides are delivered, they’ll be stowed in a special hangar on the megayacht’s bow. Unlike the traditional Freestyle Cruiser slides, which are unrolled from the deck and need a crane on that deck to maneuver them, these are designed to be unrolled and inflated while on the water. In other words, the crew will just need to start inflating the leg, and the rest of the slide will take shape, rising up. Once the slides are fully inflated, the crew can then attach the top of the structures and securing straps to the rail and deck.
Even with the differences, the S-shaped Cruiser slides still have some familiarities if you’ve ever used or purchased the traditional Freestyle Cruiser. They’re made of heavyweight Firmatex vinyl, feature “Airstairs” (steps at the bottom of the slide that you can inflate when wanted, to ease getting off), and come with high-output air pumps and all the other gear needed for inflating, deflating, and stowing. The slides can be left inflated overnight, even if the winds kick up a bit. A three-year warranty covers the product. Furthermore, Superyacht Tenders and Toys can supply the slide in custom colors and/or with logos. And, it can offer a Boost Jump bag, which goes beneath the bottom of the slide and launches guests into the air, right before they splash into the water.
Superyacht Tenders & Toys says current build time for all new orders is about 60 days—perfect timing to have one for the summer cruising season, wouldn’t you say?
