In preparation for her premiere at the Monaco Yacht Show later this month, the Columbus Sport Hybrid 40M made her way to the water for the first time this weekend.
Built at Italy-based Palumbo Shipyard, like all Columbus Yachts megayacht projects, the Sport Hybrid 40M is all aluminum and designed by Hydro Tec. Diesel-electric propulsion featuring MTU engines accounts for the “hybrid” portion of her name. Operating on electric power (from gensets) alone, the megayacht should achieve 7 knots. On diesel power, she should see a 22-knot top end and 15-knot cruise, with best range expected at 12 knots, permitting an anticipated 2,000-nautical-mile range.
Since Columbus Yachts embraces the idea of environmental awareness with all of its projects, the Columbus Sport Hybrid 40M will meet RINA’s Green Plus notation. The megayacht also has a bilge-water separator, something her RINA classification does not require.
Inside, a beam of 26’9” (8.2 meters) should translate to comfortable accommodations, including five staterooms for everyone in the owner’s party. Hot Lab Yacht & Design penned the design to feature pale-tone woods, neutral-colored fabrics, and of course large windows, making the atmosphere light and bright.
