UPDATE, APRIL 13, 2015: A video of this massive megayacht has emerged. The person who created it believes the yacht’s name is Omar, a name which was also raised as a possibility by a German newspaper that reported on the launch last week:
Read on for our original article from this weekend.
Friday morning saw this mysterious megayacht emerge from Lürssen’s facility in Lemwerder, Germany.
Lürssen has a handful of confidential contracts at present, but some are at the very least known under project names and/or designers, plus LOAs. This new yacht doesn’t match the parameters of any Lürssen yachts we expected for completion within the next year. The photographer who took the photo estimates her LOA around 492 feet (150 meters).
To put her estimated size into better perspective, take a close look at the megayacht just aft of her in this image below. It’s the uncropped version of the picture above. The other yacht is Quantum Blue, which measures 341 feet (104 meters). Admittedly, the angle of the photo makes Quantum Blue appear much smaller. Even accounting for that, the newer megayacht’s seven-deck height still dwarfs Quantum Blue.

If the guess as to the new yacht’s LOA is correct, then this megayacht should be among the five biggest private yachts in the world if delivered within the next year. Currently, the fifth-largest megayacht is another Lürssen, Topaz, coming in at 483 feet (147.25 meters).
At least we’re in good company trying to determine her name. A newspaper in Germany inquired with the yard about her, and was politely told by a representative that information was confidential. The same newspaper states that her name is either Omar or Oman. Apparently its sources were not in unison.
