The 125-foot (38-meter) Van der Valk Continental Five megayacht design here is the largest proposal to date from the duo of Van der Valk Shipyard and Guido de Groot Design.
While Van der Valk Shipyard has been in business for more than 50 years, its relationship with Guido de Groot Design dates back three. The latter has styled and performed interior-design services for a handful of deliveries in that timeframe. When Van der Valk wanted to promote a series of explorer yachts under the Continental Five banner, it naturally turned to the studio once again.
The Continental Five megayacht, ready for a contract, need not look exactly as shown here. Guido de Groot has additional styling options, some of which are more futuristic-looking. Others are far more traditional. You can additional request that your trideck Continental Five incorporate a full-displacement steel hull versus an aluminum fast-displacement one. With the steel hull, the Continental Five draws 9’2” (2.8 meters).
Whatever you choose, the Continental Five is meant for cruising in calm and challenging weather alike. She’s also intended for taking on transatlantic crossings, powered by twin 837-hp Caterpillar C18 ACERTs. Van der Valk and Ginton Naval Architects, responsible for engineering, anticipate an approximate 14-knot top speed and 11-knot cruise speed.
Guido de Groot Design will work with you to tailor the interior as you wish. You’ll enjoy a healthy beam of 27’9” (8.5 meters). The suggested layout for the Continental Five includes plenty of creature comforts. They include a beach club fitted with a sauna and dayhead, plus a hydraulic swim platform. You’ll also find full-height glass on the main deck and as a main-deck owner’s suite. Two twin staterooms and a VIP can go below decks. This frees up much of the rest of the Continental Five’s lower deck for the captain and four crewmembers.
For alfresco fun, the Continental Five has sunning space and a healthy-size wetbar on the uppermost deck. You can lounge aft on the bridge deck, too. As seen above, the Continental Five devotes the main aft deck to toy stowage. Alternately, you can request a hot tub here.
