Benetti is celebrating a significant first, and fourth. A first-time client is commissioning a Mediterraneo 116 megayacht, specifically hull number four.
Contract signing took place in mid-July. Ultimately, the owner will keep the yacht, set for delivery in early 2019, in Hong Kong. First, though, he’ll sample life onboard in the Mediterranean that summer.
Though Benetti isn’t publicizing details on the owner’s requests, the Mediterraneo 116 megayacht is a semi-custom series. The main deck’s saloon and dining area get flooded with sunshine due in part to floor-to-ceiling windows to both sides. They span 13 feet long (3.9 meters), in fact. Sliding doors from the aft deck also bring in plenty of light, in typical fashion.
A total of 10 people in the owner’s party can stay aboard. As you would expect, the master stateroom gets a prime position, forward on the main deck. Most buyers will probably mix doubles and twins below decks. However, the owner of hull number one added Pullman berths to the twin cabins.
Alfresco areas are just as available to tailor, too. Benetti anticipates the majority of customers opting for a pool forward on the upper deck, for example. The shipyard alternately will replace it with extra lounging space, or other inviting amenities.
The foredeck is certainly inviting. Benetti makes most of it available to owners and guests, yet also respects the crew’s need to go about their job. The relaxation area is two levels, featuring a hot tub. Steps to each side let crew access the gear and peer over the sides for docking maneuvers.
Since the Mediterraneo 116 is part of the Benetti Class Displacement range, she emphasizes leisurely, longer-range travel. Powered by twin 1,400-hp MAN diesels, she should hit a maximum speed of 15 knots. She should also enjoy a 3,000-nautical-mile range when slowed down a bit, to 10 knots.
