Six years ago, a handful of people at New York City’s 92nd Street Y kicked off an initiative that has since spread organically around the world. It’s #GivingTuesday, the Tuesday following Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The idea is to show support for a community by giving back, and to encourage others to do the same. With this year’s date rapidly approaching, November 28, we at MegayachtNews.com created an initiative. Specifically, it’s#GivingTuesday for the Caribbean. Just like the 92nd Street Y folks, we want to give back to a community—islands and islands of communities, really. After all, the islands have made so many magical memories for us, and for readers like you. Also like the original 92nd Street Y idea, we’d like nothing more than for it to go global. This is where you come in.
Whether you live in the United States, the UK, or elsewhere, surely you have enjoyed the islands. Surely, too, you were heartbroken by the devastation. Thankfully, recovery is underway, and together we can be a part of it. From now through December 28, our goal is to raise $5,000 through YachtAid Global to make a difference in the most-affected areas of the Caribbean. This non-profit has proven time and time again that it can get the right resources to the right people in need. In fact, check out this infographic of what it and the SuperYacht Aid Coalition have done just since September in the islands:
The impact thus far is clearly extraordinary. But the needs are far from over, and still far from insignificant. Because hurricane recovery is a long-term, ongoing process, #GivingTuesday for the Caribbean has the fundraising bar set high. Together, we can achieve it: No donation is too small. In fact, we plan to match the first $500 in donations.
Show your support for the Caribbean, and help us help so many others by supporting #GivingTuesday for the Caribbean. Our donation page is already live. Help spread the word.
