In about a week’s time, one of the largest megayachts made in Italy celebrates her official launch. For now, Dragon, with an impressive volume of 2,200 gross tons, sits patiently outside of her construction shed at the Columbus Yachts shipyard in Ancona, Italy.
Not only is Dragon one of the largest “made in Italy” megayachts, but also she’s the largest-ever from Columbus Yachts. LOA is 261 feet (79.5 meters), with an equally large beam of nearly 43 feet (13 meters).
Columbus Yachts began work on Dragon, a.k.a. the Columbus Classic 80M, in 2017. Encompassing five decks, the megayacht bears styling and naval architecture by Hydro Tec. Inside, meanwhile, the experienced owner is collaborating with Francesco Guida. Some of the stand-out features here include a glass, circular elevator, whisking guests from their staterooms to the cinema on the upper deck. Speaking of staterooms, Dragon spreads the guest accommodations across both the main deck as well as the lower deck. In fact, six staterooms await friends and family on the main deck. The owner, meanwhile, gets a private aerie on Dragon’s upper deck. However, he can invite fellow cruisers up here, given a lounge as part of the suite.
Once they all start cruising, a few alfresco features surely will be put to good use. For instance, Dragon has a waterfall-equipped pool on her sundeck. The waterfall effectively acts as a transparent “wall” between the pool and a hot tub, too. If the weather happens to not cooperate, though, guests can head inside to the comfortable cinema, and hope for sunny skies soon.
Delivery takes place later this year. Columbus Yachts says that Dragon will see a 6,000-nautical-mile range when traveling at 12 knots under MTU power.
