Suitably, turquoise-blue waters awaited Blue Ocean last week as she launched at the Damen facility in Turkey. Turquoise-colored waters, crystal-clear waters, and more lie ahead for this new member of the Damen Yacht Support series, too, which is available for sale.
Blue Ocean is part of the YS 5009 design, which has seen seven previous deliveries. Power Play, completed in 2018, is among those deliveries. So are Axis (ex-Fast and Furious) and Ad-vantage. Damen and Amels, the latter of which markets the Yacht Support vessels for its parent company, say the 182-foot (55-meter) YS 5009 design has been the most successful so far. Expect Blue Ocean to therefore see a 5,000-nautical-mile range at 10 knots and a top speed of 20 knots.
The 499-gross-ton project is additionally similar to her predecessors in being able to serve as a complement to another yacht. For example, she can take guests diving, due to a dive center aft. She can also take them on adventures via an assortment of tenders. In fact, Blue Ocean can handle personal submarines, chase boats, and more measuring up to 49 feet (15 meters) long. Between 2,583 square feet (240 square meters) of dedicated deck space and a 12-ton crane, stowing and launching these toys should be no issue. Further worth noting, you can add a heavy-duty A-frame lifting system aft if you wish.
Also noteworthy, Blue Ocean is the first Damen Yacht Support with a main-deck hangar to serve multiple purposes. For instance, it can house the submarine and other tenders. Alternately, it can be a workshop. Or, it can hold ATVs, motorcycles, and even cars. Another difference is an accommodations configuration for eight guests, four staff (security, pilots, etc.), and seven crewmembers. Guests can enjoy seeing distant shores come closer from the main-deck lounge. Plus, with an approximate 10-foot (3-meter) draft, a first for the series, too, the craft can cruise some shallower waters.
