Sea trials to confirm her anticipated, and astounding, 30-knot maximum speed are still a long way off. Nonetheless, Project Cosmos completed a major step this week at Heesen Yachts. Emphasis on “major.” This 262-footer (80-meter), the largest motoryacht in Heesen’s history, saw her massive hull and superstructure join together. Simultaneously, the yard installed Cosmos’ four-engine propulsion system.
The 1,700-gross-ton Project Cosmos completed this step 15 months after her keel laying. With styling by Winch Design, and the now-well-known Fast Displacement Hull Form by Van Oossanen, she should see completion in springtime of 2022.
Her significant dimensions may lead you to conclude that the megayacht will accommodate a larger-than-normal owners’ party. Quite the contrary, Project Cosmos is for 12 people, along with 19 crewmembers. A glass elevator makes getting around the decks easier.
This isn’t to say that she sticks to tradition everywhere, however. For instance, the VIP suite, up on the bridge deck, has an adjacent studio. The main saloon includes a fireplace (running on water vapor, interestingly enough). A bar, additionally sunken and with walk-around access, sits inside the beach club. Outside, meanwhile, the helipad (fully certified, too) can double as a cinema under the stars. A 26-foot-long (8-meter-long) pool on the main deck has contra-flow jets, a glass bottom, and a waterfall feature.
In working with Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design, the owner is creating a relatively subdued ambiance. Primarily neutral tones appear throughout her decks, although some punches of color add interest. Different textures, including sculptural glass panels, do as well.
Of course, the megayacht will carry a complement of watertoys. Perhaps most noteworthy, one will be a custom tender with styling by Winch Design. The studio is incorporating sporty lines in keeping with the essence of Heesen Yachts, while simultaneously blending in what it says are futuristic looks.
Finally, speaking of sporty, expect Cosmos to top out around 30 knots and cruise at upwards of 20 knots.
