First it was Below Deck. Then it was Below Deck: Mediterranean. More recently, Below Deck Sailing Yacht introduced the general public to superyachts and yacht charter. Now get ready for Below Deck Down Under. The wildly popular television franchise about the goings-on among superyacht charter crew is heading to Australia for a new spinoff series.
The streaming service Peacock announced the show just yesterday. It followed a few media reports in recent weeks citing rumors of the program, along with filming in the Whitsunday Islands. In fact, those same reports say production is headquartered in Airlie Beach (above), considered a gateway to the islands. Additionally, they claim filming began in late April.
Regardless, the only information coming from producers is the show’s description. Similar to the franchise’s other unscripted dramas, Below Deck Down Under “will showcase the upstairs/downstairs of a real working superyacht,” according to the press release. This means, of course, shenanigans as much as it means glimpses of life on deck and in cabins.
The franchise has been a ratings hit since it first aired in 2013, on the Bravo cable network. It still airs on Bravo, too. Between the original series and its first spinoff, Below Deck Mediterranean, destinations include the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Croatia, and Thailand. Furthermore, more than half a dozen different motoryachts have appeared. A second spinoff, Below Deck Sailing Yacht, has featured just one sailing superyacht so far in its two-season history.
Thus far, the producers of the new show are not revealing the type of yacht they’re using. Regardless, they do pledge to showcase what Australia has to offer. This includes scuba diving and other underwater adventures.
In the meantime, further Below Deck spinoffs are in the works. Filming commences this coming August, reportedly in Norway, for Below Deck Adventure. Producers are currently seeking charter guests among U.S. residents, too.
