Several shipyards are striving to re-invent usable space onboard, benefitting owners and guests as well as the crew. Maiora, part of the Next Yacht Group, is one of them. Among its latest flying-bridge cruisers, the Maiora 30 Walkaround re-imagines how you move from the bow to the stern.
The name hints at it, too. “Walkaround” means that the megayacht has not only full side decks on the main deck, but also access from the flying bridge to the bow. The flying-bridge access is particularly noteworthy. Upper decks tend only to include stairs to the aft deck, never forward. It’s true regardless of whether a yacht is this LOA, which is 100 feet (30.5 meters), or larger. Additionally, the size of the flying bridge is unusual, especially for a 100-foot yacht. It’s upwards of 1,292 square feet (120 square meters), partially because it extends farther forward than usual. All of this is a further reconfiguration of a design that premiered in recent years.
What’s more, the Maiora 30 Walkaround still provides a full-beam master suite on the main deck. Here, “walkaround” is really “walk up and over.” The side decks flow up over the sleeping area and en suite head so that crew or guests can walk unimpeded outside. Simultaneously, this ensures privacy for the master suite and truly pushes it out most of the 24’6” (7.5-meter) beam.
Naturally, interiors and on-deck spaces are yours to outfit, since the yacht is semi-custom. For example, you can have four guest staterooms below decks. Or, convert a cabin into a gym. For the saloon, meanwhile, keep it as a traditional living room, or turn it into a nighttime cinema. Note, too, that Maiora collaborates with Italian brands like Poltrona Frau for custom furnishings.
Whatever you decide to do inside, take the opportunity to enjoy cocktails outside. Besides doing so on the foredeck seating area, you can sip and savor the view fully aft, at the waterline. The Maiora 30 Walkaround includes an aft-facing settee nestled between the twin transom steps.
While this hides the transom garage and can be where you watch over your kids on the watertoys, definitely use it for yourself, too.
