When Independence saw delivery in 1998 from Perini Navi, the sailing superyacht earned renown. Among the reasons why, the 174-footer (53-meter) prioritized family time, especially the safety and enjoyment of small children. Further famously featuring a forward cockpit, the yacht, now Jasail II, has seen just two sets of owners in all this time. Jasail II is putting herself out prominently once again. She’s the first refit taking place in the recently re-opened Viareggio, Italy shipyard of Perini Navi.
Perini Navi restarted operations earlier this year, following acquisition by The Italian Sea Group. While it’s exclusively focusing on sailing superyachts, the shipyard plans a mix of new construction and refits. For the refit of Jasail II, the craftspeople are redesigning her alfresco areas and structures. Although the yard has not indicated whether the forward cockpit will undergo alterations, overall, the yacht has nearly 614 square feet (57 square meters) of cockpit space. Inside, meanwhile, the yacht has accommodations for 14 total passengers.
With a beam of 37 feet (11.4 meters), the steel-hulled yacht will be in the hands of the Italian Sea Group’s NCA Refit division. The captain, Danilo Del Bianco, will be the owners’ eyes and ears on site, too, remaining until completion in April 2023.
“I am very proud to have here today an icon of Perini Navi history, the 53-meter Jasail II, an important return to the territory and a tangible sign of continuity,” says Giovanni Costantino, founder and CEO of The Italian Sea Group.
In related news, construction activities are back underway at the yard as well. The 197-foot (60-meter) Katana, for example, resumed production following the acquisition, according to The Italian Sea Group. Katana was among the new builds whose progress ceased when a court declared Perini Navi bankrupt in early 2021. The yard is also putting the final touches to a newly styled fleet of sailing yachts, further boasting technical innovations. Details should come in early 2023.
