Superyacht enthusiasts who enjoy Southern California sunshine may already know about Chula Vista Marina. It’s now part of the Safe Harbor Marinas fold.
In the city of Chula Vista, the facility has nearly 600 slips. While most are for sub-80-foot motoryachts and sailing yachts, megayachts to 120 feet (36.58 meters) can occupy end ties. Chula Vista Marina opened in 1984, the first slip facility to see construction at the southern end of San Diego Bay. Near the public fishing pier, the marina has computerized gate access for the docks, plus a lounge/meeting room and other amenities. Additionally, a restaurant on site, Galley at the Marina, serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It often has island-style bands on its patio deck, too.
While the marina is away from the downtown area of Chula Vista, the second-largest city in San Diego County, it’s close enough to take advantage of the sights in minutes. For instance, Downtown Chula Vista’s 30 blocks of shops and restaurants are popular draws. The downtown area runs along Third Avenue. A weekly Sunday market offers produce, meats, crafts, and more for sale, too. Fans of historic cultural centers will note the plans for the 80-year-old Vogue Theater. It’s transforming into an event venue with outdoor space. (The pandemic has been delaying the work.) Just across the bay from the marina lies the famed Hotel Del Coronado. And, fishing enthusiasts will appreciate that Chula Vista Marina is a stone’s throw from the public fishing pier.
In related news, Safe Harbor Marinas has acquired Marina Bay Yacht Harbor, also in California. It’s farther up the coast, in Richmond, near San Francisco. Similar to Chula Vista Marina, it can accommodate megayachts to 120 feet. Its overall slip total is 850.
The two acquisitions bring the total of California marinas under Safe Harbor Marinas’ ownership to 11. Additionally, they bring its overall marina total to 134 properties, in 24 states and Puerto Rico. The company is the world’s largest owner and operator of marinas.
