The ideas that designer Luca Dini brought to the table in discussions with Tankoa Yachts for a new series have struck a chord. The Tankoa Sportiva 55 yacht series has attracted a second customer, resulting in a project set for delivery next year.
The Tankoa Sportiva line, announced in 2021, includes three models. They are the 45, 55, and 65, measuring 148, 180, and 213 feet, respectively. So far the 55 is the only one that has started construction, as planned. All are entirely aluminum and share some design elements, including double-angled bows. In fact, the bows blend vertical and flared sections, to afford more interior space as well as green-water protection. Yet another common trait outside is multi-level, wide-open space aft, like an open-air beach club. Inside, meanwhile, the three models all incorporate a main-deck master suite.
Of course, since customers are welcome to tailor the designs, the owner of the recently signed Tankoa Sportiva 55 is taking advantage. For example, he’s requested five staterooms for friends and family below decks. Naturally, he’s keeping the master stateroom on the main deck, but adding a hot tub. Additionally, he’s keeping a sunken pool on the open aft deck, one of the original suggestions from Luca Dini of Luca Dini Design. Speaking of sunken, a lounge will straddle the waterline (below), much like what some shipyards call a Nemo room, since it has a window allowing views beneath the waves. An elevator will connect the lower deck up to the upper deck. Although decor details remain out of the public, the owner’s team is handling design.
Since the second Tankoa Sportiva 55 yacht has sold in less than a year after hull number one, the shipyard feels confident the series will continue to see success. “I am proud to see that the commercial strategy undertaken three years ago is bringing the expected results,” says Giuseppe Mazza, Tankoa’s sales and marketing manager.
Eva Orsi, Tankoa’s president, adds, “The super-sleek Sportiva 55 was designed by Luca Dini to expand our market offering by integrating all the best features into a 55-meter yacht while remaining under 500 gross tons, and this second sale shows we’ve hit the nail on the head.”
