An owners’ rendezvous is a great way not only to meet fellow customers of a shipyard, but also to get ideas for a new yacht. For one family from Australia, it was the inspiration to sign a contract for a Horizon FD 90 yacht, which they’ll further offer for charter.
The owners joined the Horizon Yachts family last year, after buying a Horizon E73 on the brokerage market. The E series, which features flying-bridge models, is the builder’s most popular. Since they wanted to make changes to suit their lifestyle, the owners sent the yacht to a shipyard. She was still in that yard when the Horizon Yacht Australia Owners’ Rendezvous kicked off last October. Despite not having a boat to bring, the family attended the event. There, they saw a Horizon FD90 yacht, and you could say the rest is history.
Interestingly, the FD90 is the most popular among the FD series. “FD” stands for Fast Displacement, since each model has that type of hull. Among the things the owners were immediately attracted to was the FD90’s styling. It’s quite contemporary compared to the sporty E series. It further has a lot more glass. Additionally, the owners really appreciated the 104-ton volume. With the 23-foot (7.1-meter) beam, it lends the interior spaces a far roomier look and sensation.
Of course, the amenities were a draw as well. Although the shipyard hasn’t indicated what custom touches their new build will have, Horizon FD90 yacht owners usually opt for five staterooms in total. This puts the master suite forward on the main deck, without imposing on the galley, dining area, and saloon. Another popular option is having a privacy screen drop down on the pass-through counter/breakfast bar between the galley and dining area (above).
Outside, meanwhile, the family and their future charter guests have similarly spacious areas to enjoy. The high foredeck has a seating/cocktail area and big sunpad, for instance. Some owners have requested refrigerators here for convenience, too. Finally the skylounge can be fully enclosed or remain open aft, for a better indoor-outdoor flow.
On yet another note, the Horizon FD90 series has met with strong success in Australia. Hull number 25 was delivered there last year, in fact.
