Bearing the beam of a much bigger megayacht, the Astondoa Ax8 yacht joins the Spanish shipyard’s line of crossover projects. She blends sporty looks and performance with super-social, multi-level lounging spaces.
The project builds on the success of the Astondoa As8, its largest flying-bridge model. She’s nearly the same size, too, at 80 feet (24.46 meters). However, the Astondoa Ax8 yacht really sets herself apart from the family, and the rest of the market, with an extra-wide beam. It spans 20 feet (6 meters), which is closer to the norm for a 100-footer (30-meter). Notably, other shipyards have met with success in recent years with beamier boats targeting entry-level megayacht buyers.

The deciding factors for buyers, of course, come down to how builders allocate space. Astondoa has provided walk-around decks on the main level, one difference compared to some competitors. Secondly, the main aft deck/alfresco dining space is larger than usual, looking and feeling like part of the terraced open-air beach club, too. The beach club can be put to good use when owners offload watertoys that stow here. There’s enough space for you to keep not just a RIB, but also a PWC.
Yet another difference, the galley and dining area are seamless, for living a low-key lifestyle aboard. The Astondoa As8 has the same configuration—and was the inspiration, in fact. Additionally intended to be seamless, the skylounge and aft flying-bridge sunning space have just full-height sliding-glass doors separating them.

Four staterooms sit below decks, including a full-beam suite aft. A further two cabins accommodate crewmembers. Interestingly, the Astondoa Ax8 yacht has a captain’s cabin, too, aft of the wheelhouse. Rarely, if ever, do motoryachts in the 80-foot range have a space here for skippers.
Although Astondoa hasn’t revealed performance figures, the standard engine package is a pair of Volvo Penta IPS 1350s. If the As8 yacht is any indication of the anticipated speeds, they should be around 30 knots at top end.
