Between the growing popularity of multihulls and the success that Wider Yachts is having with them, it’s no surprise the shipyard has introduced another model. This time, however it’s a smaller size. The WiderCat 76 should resonate with a broader spectrum of buyers, especially those stepping up to their first large luxury yacht.
Already under construction, the project complements the WiderCat 92, Wider Yachts’ first catamaran series. That series has already seen two launches this year and has several more contracts in various stages of construction. “She’s not just a sibling to the WiderCat 92, but also another step forward,” asserts Marcello Maggi, president of the shipyard’s ownership team. Specifically, he says, “The WiderCat 76 continues our ethos of bringing superyacht-size space to a smaller vessel.”
For instance, the WiderCat 76 yacht beam is 34 feet (10.48 meters)—this, for a 76-footer (23-meter). For comparison, traditional megayacht monohulls with similar beams are in the 213- to 230-foot (65- to 70-meter) LOA range. Main-deck living areas like the saloon and master suite certainly will benefit as a result. The very notion of a main-deck master suite aboard a 76-footer further comes from far bigger boats. So, too, does one of its biggest charms, direct access forward to a terrace-like alfresco seating area (top).
Just as it did to develop the WiderCat 92, Wider Yachts has partnered with Luca Dini Design for styling and interiors. “The yacht features an elegant Hamptons style, reinterpreted with yachting flair,” Maggi notes. You’ll find an overall polished yet laid-back ambience aboard the WiderCat 72 yacht. Lacquered ivory wall panels combine and contrast with dark-oak coffered overheads and a herringbone parquet sole. Together, they enhance the voluminous look and feel of the beamy boat.
Besides the main-deck master—containing a shower with panoramic views—three guest staterooms are aboard. All sit below decks, as does the galley. Conversations and simply enjoying the scenery take place in the expansive saloon, as well as on the mostly open upper deck. Lunches and dinners at anchor are more enjoyable thanks to the dining area beneath the hardtop. Pre- or post-dinner cocktails and conversations certainly are the focus of what Wider calls the forward conversation nook. A cozy seating area faces aft, yet with all-around views thanks to its positioning.
Although Wider Yachts hasn’t revealed full details about the propulsion package, it’s a system similar to that of the WiderCat 92. Therefore, a battery bank should allow up to six hours of silence at anchor, powering air conditioning and other hotel loads. Additionally, while the WiderCat 72 yacht should see a 700-nautical-mile range at 12 knots, it increases to 1,600 when she dials back to 8 knots.
That puts plenty of sandy shores, some unquestionably bucket-list destinations for these broader buyers, within reach.
