The last few days in March saw 27 superstars of the superyacht sailing world compete in the annual St. Barths Bucket. The winds cooperated beautifully, and even though the seas on day one made for some interesting conditions, the three-day event went off without a weather hitch. Fans on shore and in their own boats watched as famous cruisers like Gliss, Rebecca, Ranger, Antara, Paraiso, and Hyperion participated in three different races, but at the end it was Windrose which took the overall regatta—beating Ranger by a mere five seconds in the last race at that.
Besides racing, the yacht owners and crew participated in yacht hops (during which Rebecca’s crew dressed in “udderly” hysterical cow costumes, just for fun) and enjoyed a concert by Jimmy Buffett. Buffett memorabilia was also auctioned off, to raise funds for FEMUR (St Barths Foundation for Emergency Medical Equipment).
Full race results are here, but you can feel as if you watched the action yourself by enjoying this slide show. (Thanks to Bob Paylor, a resident of the island who runs a photoblog, for the images.)
