I’d like to share another brief video clip with you, this time taken at Heesen. The yard is expanding its capacity by 50 percent, having finally acquired some land adjacent to its long-time facilities. Heesen had been operating in an awkward position, arguably: Its sheds were on opposite sides of the water, separated by a parking-lot-size plot of land that it didn’t own. While not the worst situation in the world, it obviously wasn’t ideal.
Now that Heesen does own the property, it’s prepping the space for three 60-meter-long (a little less than 200-foot-long) sheds. The video here shows how giant poles have been hammered down into the floor of the basin and water is being pumped out so that the drydock floor can eventually be laid.
