If you’re a regular listener of the Megayacht News Radio podcast series, you may remember that last November, Todd Roberts, vice president of Marine Group Boat Works, discussed a new yacht repair and storage facility under construction in Mexico. That facility, Marine Group Boat Works de Los Cabos, is hosting its grand opening this Monday.
Located at the southern end of Baja California in San Jose del Cabo, the boatyard is on the grounds of The Marina at Puerto Los Cabos. The marina is just the second one in the city of San Jose del Cabo, which has been referred to as the “mild sister” to the “wild sister” of Cabo San Lucas. As for Marine Group Boat Works de Los Cabos, it features the only drystack storage in the region and the largest TraveLift, with a 150-ton capacity, suited to megayachts to 125 feet (with a maximum 28-foot beam). That TraveLift has already been put to use within the past few days, by the 110-foot Panache, as you can see in the photo here.
Other services on site include a propeller shop, which employs PropScan technology, one of the most highly respected and accurate scanning and measuring systems available. There are also paint, carpentry, and mechanical shops, and a marine retail store should be ready for business in May. Other features captains and project managers would expect to find include private offices and concierge services. The concierge services are particularly key for captains and crewmembers who aren’t familiar with the area. The Marine Group’s staff can recommend hotels, restaurants, and other places to visit and activities to pursue on their down time.
Speaking of concierge services, the facility is offering a few packages pertaining to the new drystack storage, which you can see to the right in the photo above. accommodates 100 boats to a maximum 33 feet LOA (ideal for tenders). One, for example, is pretty straightforward, including haul out, storage, and launch. But for owners who want or need a bit more, another adds maintenance, fueling, and even provisioning, among other services.
