She was a boat so nice, her owner named her twice.
Well, sort of. The gentleman who took delivery of the 60-meter (197-foot) Phoenix from Lürssen in 2004 just saw his second build with the yard hit the water. Her name: Phoenix 2. Most yacht watchers know her by her code name until this point, Project J24.
The 87.2-meter (286-foot) Phoenix 2 does share the same design, build, and management team as her predecessor – these being Andrew Winch Designs, Lürssen, and Moran Yacht & Ship, respectively. But even with that, the owner wanted to distinguish the two projects from one another. It’s most evident on Phoenix 2 in the dark-tone hull and sleeker profile; Phoenix bore more rounded features. And if the sun’s reflection off the polished stainless steel rails happens to catch you eye, you’ll appreciate knowing that there are more than 330 feet of rails rimming the yacht, all custom shaped.
While the owner wanted Phoenix 2 to feature an Art Deco interior, similar to Phoenix, there’s an overriding New York flair to the décor this time around. No specifics have been given yet, though we do know that the master suite is a two-level affair, additionally benefiting from a private alfresco area with Jacuzzi.
Speaking of Jacuzzis, there’s another one on the sundeck, accompanied by a larger pool. If the owner and guests aren’t enjoying the sun up here, they can enjoy a movie, as there’s also an outdoor cinema.
Finishing work is ongoing, with sea trials expected soon. Delivery is set for this summer.
