Freedom of choice is a primary reason why yacht buyers choose to build a fully custom yacht. In the case of Moon Sand, launched last week at Feadship, it’s one of three defining factors behind the way the 145-footer (44.2-meter) is built and designed.
Having owned yachts previously, the couple who commissioned Moon Sand provided a detailed brief. They worked closely with the yard’s team, De Voogt Naval Architects, and Bannenberg & Rowell Design in bringing the three themes to life. Specifically, they are freedom of choice, space, and light.
Aboard Moon Sand, freedom of choice means the owners and their family have multiple ways to enjoy themselves. It also means spaces themselves offer multiple choices. The primary example: the pool with a lifting floor, able to be positioned at different levels. Fully down, of course, it creates a traditional swimming pool. One of the owners intends to swim laps against the contraflow jets. To create a kiddie pool, the crew of Moon Sand can raise the pool floor about halfway. Finally, flush with the deck, the floor creates additionally sunning, seating, and dining spots.
The themes of freedom of choice and space coincide aboard Moon Sand. Two of the three guest staterooms can convert into one large suite with a seating area. This can come in handy when the full-beam (29’9”, or 9.1-meter) VIP suite is occupied and additional Very Important family come along. Up on the sun deck, the aft section can be the tender-stowage area or more entertainment space when the 20-foot (6.2-meter) boat is offloaded. Why no tender garage aboard Moon Sand? To allow for the flexible floor arrangement of the pool.
Finally, light comes into play on Moon Sand via big expanses of glass. You can see a large panel inserted into the bulwark amidships in the photo above. Further large ports are in the main-deck master suite, along the main deck relaxation spaces, and along the bridge deck.
A captain, six crew, and two staff members will accompany the owners of Moon Sand and their family upon delivery. This Feadship promises to be an active player, given an abundance of watertoys. They range from PWCs to kayaks, paddle boards, and dive gear.
