St. Thomas’ Yacht Haven Grande has been named the Superyacht Marina of the Year 2016.
The recognition comes from The Yacht Harbor Association (TYHA), an international yachting organization. It invited marina customers worldwide to cast votes for their favorite place. Only those marinas that have received TYHA’s Gold Anchor accreditation were eligible. To get a Gold Anchor, a facility must meet or exceed TYHA-set standards for compliance with environmental rules; the maintenance of walkways and docks; safety; lighting of the full property; and more. Yacht Haven Grande is a 5-Anchor marina, the highest TYHA level.
TYHA says that its team and its partner in the effort, GJW Insurance, tabulated more than 4,500 votes. The votes spread among 88 marinas, too.
Yacht Haven Grande, operated by IGY Marinas, devotes all 46 of its slips to megayachts. Located in Charlotte Amalie, it has extensive on-site facilities. They include restaurants, a florist, a chandlery, and provisioning services. In-slip fueling and pump-out are available, too. Owners and guests who dock their yachts here further take advantage of a few dozen boutiques and designer shops along the promenade.
Kenny Jones, executive vice president of operations for IGY Marinas, says his staff especially values the award due it coming from “honest feedback through positive testimonials from our guests.” He adds that the management teams of Yacht Haven Grande and the rest of the company’s properties recognize that service, facilities, and the overall marina image need to improve every year “to survive in a very demanding sector of the marina industry.”
