Each year, The Yacht Harbor Association (TYHA), among the oldest international yachting associations worldwide, solicits input from marina slip holders. Specifically, it asks them to vote for their favorite marina. TYHA has just granted Yacht Haven Grande in St. Thomas its Superyacht Marina of the Year award for 2020. What’s more, this marks the third time that the marina has earned the recognition.
TYHA collaborates with Towergate Insurance to review nominations for more than 160 marinas around the world. These marinas must have TYHA’s Gold Anchor accreditation, too. This means that they meet or exceed TYHA-established protocols for environmental compliance, dock and pathway maintenance, safety, and more. Yacht Haven Grande holds the highest accreditation, a 5 Platinum Anchor level, having been a Gold Anchor level for a few years.
The facility, managed by IGY Marinas, has received this Superyacht Marina of the Year award two previous times. In fact, it first received the honors in 2016. Notably, the property is the only marina in the world with three of these awards. “To be selected for this accolade by the captains and officers of some of the world’s most notable yachts is truly an honor,” says Phil Blake, Yacht Haven Grande’s general manager. He credits the on-site and corporate staff with striving “to make every visit a secure, memorable, and fun one.”
Yacht Haven Grande is a superyacht-exclusive facility, capable of accommodating yachts to 656 feet (200 meters) in length. The winter season is, of course, its busiest, with both private and charter yachts seeking slips. Furthermore, pertaining to the ongoing pandemic, the property is offering COVID-19 screening. Tests, available by prior appointment, are done by a licensed medical professional, either onboard or off the yacht. Results come back within 24 hours, too. Plus, should the need arise, staff can help arrange medical evacuation via private jet back to the United States.
Yacht Haven Grande is one of 18 marinas in 11 countries under IGY Marinas’ operation.
