A few Damen Yacht Support deliveries are already cruising. However, none are like New Frontiers. Just launched last week, the 181-footer (55.3-meter) is the first to feature staterooms for the owners and guests.
New Frontiers is part of the Damen YS 5009 range. (One notable previous delivery from that range: Fast & Furious.) Therefore, she has helicopter landing and carrying capabilities, plus a Sea Axe hull form. The latter affords better seakeeping in even large seas, plus a reported top speed of 20 knots. Furthermore, range should be 5,000 nautical miles. However, instead of serving solely in a support role, New Frontiers is both a luxury cruiser unto herself as well as a secondary adventure seeker. As Rose Damen, Damen’s commercial director, puts it, “New Frontiers is ripping up the rule book.”
The owners requested a main-deck master suite and three guest staterooms for friends and family. “They want their holiday to be about freedom and spontaneity,” Rose Damen continues. Spontaneity indeed. While they may have New Frontiers accompany their primary megayacht, they envision hopping onboard for nearly last-minute, independent escapades. These can include weekend dive trips, she explains. Furthermore, she adds, these can include sending New Frontiers to another anchorage close enough to reach via helicopter but far enough to provide a different, fun experience.
Whatever their choices, the owners and guests have several more superyacht-centric features onboard to enjoy. New Frontiers has a saloon and dining area encompassing about 323 square feet (30 square meters) and spanning the 29’5” (9-meter) beam. An even more sizable sundeck awaits, measuring about 538 square feet (50 square meters). The above-mentioned dive trips are possible thanks to the “adventure center,” as Damen puts it, fully aft. Other watersports equipment stows here as well. To assist the owners’ party, New Frontiers additionally accommodates four staff members, security personnel, and/or pilots and guides.
You can step aboard New Frontiers at the upcoming Monaco Yacht Show, as part of Amels’ display. (Amels’ parent company is Damen.) For now, here’s more from her launch.
