IGY Marinas continues adding megayacht properties beyond North, Central, and South American shores. It has taken over an existing marina in southern Spain, not far from Gibraltar. IGY Málaga Marina should begin welcoming yachts upwards of 328 feet (100 meters), plus offer owners, guests, and crew information on the historic local area, this coming spring.
IGY Marinas joins two other firms as an investor in the property. They include a local businessman and Ocean Capital Partners. The latter is an international firm specializing in managing and investing in maritime and port assets. Together, the companies are redeveloping the marina basin as well as the infrastructure. Furthermore, IGY Marinas will handle management duties.
IGY Málaga Marina sits in the city of Málaga, along Spain’s Costa del Sol. It’s just up the coast from Gibraltar, therefore making it well suited for megayachts making transatlantic crossings. Since the marina is also 20 minutes from the Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport, owners, guests, and crew can come and go quite easily. Year-round temperate weather further makes the marina an option for year-round berthing. Plus, Steve English, IGY Marinas’ executive vice president of corporate development, says that more than 500 existing customers cruised near the city last year.
IGY Málaga Marina is walking distance to both the beach and the city center. Besides offering restaurants and shops, the city hosts festivals throughout the year. Pablo Picasso was born in Málaga, too, so museums celebrate his works. Plus, centuries-old Moorish fortresses and Roman ruins dot the hillsides. Specifically for crew, the local market, housed in a striking iron and glass building, is a must-visit.
The marina itself will have a gym for captains and crew, along with a business center and full concierge services. IGY Málaga Marina further will offer 24-hour security and the usual fueling and pump-out services.
“With the 2019 launch of IGY’s purpose-built superyacht marina in Sète, the south of France, and the continued success of Porto Cervo Marina in Sardinia, the IGY network continues to showcase the company’s strength,” says Tom Mukamal, the company CEO.
