Water lovers in the Magic City will get up-close looks at the aptly named Extra X99 Fast in a few months. The sporty superyacht, which hit a reported 37 knots during sea trials, will use the city as her homeport.
Initially called the X99, the series is relatively new, with this launch being hull number one. The owner signed the contract two years ago. Among other things, the curved, vertical bow and other styling by Guida Design captured his attention. Of course, Extra Yachts’ philosophy did, too. The idea is to provide cruisers with more volume and more usable space than comparably sized projects. In fact, the volume and relaxation areas rival those of much larger yachts. For example, the aft deck alone is 807 square feet (75 square meters). This, aboard a 99-footer (30-meter). The space develops over more than one level as well, with fold-down balconies, a seating area, a sunning area, and dining for 12. Serving meals ranging from breakfast to dinner becomes simpler thanks to the galley being aft just inside. It even has a slide-down glass partition opening it up to the outdoor area.
Up to 10 people can stay onboard, in four staterooms. The VIP, two standard guest staterooms, and the master suite are all below decks. This keeps the main deck of the Extra X99 Fast completely reserved for daytime to nighttime entertainment and enjoyment.
A big part of that enjoyment is the swift speed. As noted, the Extra X99 Fast clocked close to 40 knots during her sea trials, according to the shipyard. It had anticipated that the twin 2,600-hp MTUs, with waterjets, would push her to a top speed of 34 knots. Cruising speeds in the high-20-knot range should deliver equal fun. Either way, the spirited performance complements the sporty lines.
Even more on-water fun comes from the tender. The Extra X99 Fast has a starboard-side toy garage capable of holding a 13-foot (4-meter) Williams Sportjet RIB. Additionally, the owner is nestling two PWCs on the bow, with a crane to launch and retrieve them.
Following delivery, this Extra X99 Fast won’t be the only model in America. Neither will she be the only one in Miami. Hull number two, currently under construction, will base there as well.
