Festivities begin for the 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona in just three months. Owners, guests, and crew can enjoy private events, prime viewing positions, and more through the 37th America’s Cup Superyacht Program.
Barcelona earned the choice as the host city for multiple reasons. Importantly, it has the technical infrastructure to support an event attracting international visitors. It also boasts numerous restaurants (many Michelin starred, too), hotels, and entertainment options. Equally important, it has proper infrastructure for the team bases and visiting superyachts. In fact, since racing starts during the prime Med summer season, organizers already have 200 megayachts with confirmed slips, and more inquiries pending.
The America’s Cup calendar in Barcelona includes a number of high-profile events from early August through the end of October. For instance, the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup Barcelona official opening ceremony is on August 22. The Unicredit Youth and Puig Women’s America’s Cup Regattas, featuring the next generation of foiling sailors, starts September 17. The J Class Regatta (serving as a world championship) and the Superyacht Regatta are yet additional highly anticipated competitions, beginning October 4. Of course, the biggest highlight is the America’s Cup Match itself, beginning on October 12. Emirates Team New Zealand is the defender.
Three marinas are providing berths for the 37th America’s Cup Superyacht Program. Marina Port Vell is the preferred marina (below), in the heart of the city. Marina Vela and Port Forum are additionally offering slips, each a few minutes from the city. Regardless of where you dock, you can take advantage of several exclusive experiences. For example, you can have a commentator onboard to provide expert insight during racing. You can obtain guest passes to the America’s Cup hospitality venue onshore, a.k.a. the House of AC37. Tickets are also available for the AC Experience IMAX interactive space. Better yet, if you’re entertaining business clients or other big groups, you can host a private event there. Additionally notable, tickets are available for selective events like dinners, prize giving, and ceremonies. Yet another opportunity, you can obtain official AC37 merchandise co-branded with your yacht’s logo or name.
Certainly, one of the most popular options, though, is being a spectator boat. You’re provided with a specific viewing location, the race schedule for the day, the racecourse details, and daily updates.
Just as it did for the America’s Cup events in years past, BWA Yachting is managing the 37th America’s Cup Superyacht Program. “We’ve seen an incredible level of interest,” says Francesca Fenucci, BWA Yachting’s chief communications officer. Because of the high response—organizers initially anticipated about 100 superyachts wanting slips—“we’re even exploring alternative locations to accommodate the growing demand for dockage solutions.”
Quotes are provided on an individual basis after submitting a pre-booking form (letter of interest) and other documents outlined on the BWA Yachting website. A minimum of 30 nights is required for berth bookings. Although there is no deadline for submitting interest, BWA Yachting does urge quick action, since it expects significantly more requests as the dates draw closer.
