Southern Wind Shipyard is meeting with success for its SW96 sailing superyacht series. Hull number five is under construction for a second-time customer.
The carbon fiber performance yacht comes from the drawing boards of Farr Yacht Design for the hull as well as Nauta Design for styling and interior design. She joins a series that has seen deliveries like Seatius, from 2018, plus Sorceress and Ammonite. Notably, hull number four is in build as well, with a sporty “GT” deck design and diesel-electric propulsion.
The shipyard and the two design studios conceived the SW96 series to serve as a spirited racer, a long-range cruiser with a performance edge, or simply a luxury-oriented yacht to offer for charter, too. Notably, the owner of hull number five does plan to offer her for charter. She’ll therefore meet RINA Charter Class requirements.
As for the luxury amenities, the yacht has a raised-saloon design with panoramic windows and hull ports making interiors look and feel bright. The saloon spans the full beam and is going to be the center of the interior action when cruising. Separately, SW96 hull five has a TV lounge forward to starboard. Although we don’t yet know what the interior décor will be, the owner has requested two guest staterooms. One sits forward to port, near the master suite, while the other is amidships to port. Naturally, the crew’s quarters are self-contained aft, with the galley, a crew mess, and direct needed access to the engine room and other technical areas. Bunk berths will accommodate four capable hands.
Out on deck, SWS96 hull five has two cockpits, of course, with one for navigating aft and one for socializing forward. Southern Wind Shipyard and the design studios prioritize simple, safe movement from one to the other while the superyacht is underway as well, thanks to minimal level changes.
Even though the owner is prioritizing cruising, the yacht should still perform well in various conditions. A lifting keel and twin rudders certainly help in this respect.
Expect delivery of the teak-decked yacht to take place toward the end of next year.
