The U.S. State Department has sanctioned two more yachts and their owner due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The superyachts Addiction and Anatta are now blocked property as a result.
Addiction is a motoryacht, while Anatta is a sailing yacht. Addiction saw delivery in 2010 as part of the Amels Limited Editions series. In fact, she was hull number one in the Limited Editions Amels 177 series. She has chartered in recent years, too, with a weekly base rate starting at €266,000. As for Anatta, delivery took place in 2012 from Vitters Shipyard, though she bore the name Aglaia at the time. LOA is 217 feet (66 meters). The sloop-rigged superyacht has remained in private use as Anatta.
The superyachts Addiction and Anatta allegedly belong to Russian-Israeli businessman Sergei Nikolaevich Adonev. He, too, is under sanctions. The State Department alleges he’s a financier to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Sergei Chemezov, the CEO of Rostec, a Russian state-owned defense conglomerate. Furthermore, a spokesperson for the State Department indicates that Adonev’s financial-services company Kaleidoskop is under sanctions. It does not provide details as to why, however.
Specifically, the superyachts Addiction and Anatta as well as Adonev’s company are all identified as blocked property. Generally, this prohibits any American person or company from providing funds, good, or services to them. Adonev himself is a Specially Designated National. This means that U.S. individuals or entities cannot carry out transactions with him.
For clarity, a blocked status does not mean that the yachts are under arrest. Nor does it mean that the United States has stripped Adonev of his ownership. Additionally, neither the European Union nor the United Kingdom has issued similar sanctions against Adonev or his yachts. This means that Addiction, currently in the Med, may continue to offer and book charters to a variety of nationals. The current whereabouts of Anatta remain unknown. She last appeared on AIS in The Netherlands, prior to a major refit, two years ago.
