What happens when you like most of a superyacht model, but you’d prefer a few things to be different? One yacht owner not only created a new version of a series with AB Yachts, but also signed on for hull number one. The shipyard credits his AB 125 yacht to how “the market is responding” to its approach.
Giacomo Benelli, head of sales for Next Yacht Group (which owns AB Yachts), says the response comes from the shipyard’s self-test. “Our challenge is to deliver yachts that are not simply eye-catching and high-performing, but also original, distinctive, and increasingly exciting,” he explains.
Springing from the AB 120 yacht (below), whose first hull delivery is coming soon, the 128-foot (39-meter) AB 125 is similarly a sport fly, a swift flying-bridge cruiser. Therefore, expect her to exceed 40 knots of speed, with the comforts of a more traditional motoryacht. The 24-foot (7.5-meter) beam surely will make her look and feel comfortable. So, too, should more than 538 square feet (50 square meters) of floor-to-ceiling glass in just the saloon.
Overall, the owner and guests will have upwards of 1,500 square feet (140 square meters) of usable space from the swim platform straight through the main deck. It starts with the open-air beach club, where two side platforms fold down to create an even more wide-open relaxation area. Since the sliding doors separating the aft deck from the saloon can disappear when open, the AB 125 yacht will afford the owner’s party a true indoor-outdoor experience. Additionally, they’ll be able to take a dip in an aft-deck pool. Next Yacht Group calls it a “sea view” pool due to its position.
Unusually for a megayacht of her LOA, the AB 125 yacht further will have a float-in tender garage. Also unusual, she’ll have a forward garage as well. Although the specific toys this owner plans to have aren’t known yet, the shipyard can fit a tender up to about 21 feet (6.3 meters). A variety of PWCs and inflatables or small watertoys can stow in either or both garages.
The owner is working with Next Yacht Group’s in-house design department for the interiors. Although the woods and stones aren’t being publicized at this time, everything of course will be custom designed.
